Wow. I just get a huge complaint from someone. I mean that was vicious. Yikes. To help the faint of heart I will not post what they said here (or even part of it) but I will paraphrase. No one can find an immersion class to go to once a year. It’s impossible where I live.
(For those of you not familiar with what an immersion class is or why you should take one click here.)
OK, so there are two parts to this. The first is that you don’t need to find a new immersion class every year. It does not need to be that hard. In fact, there are benefits to sticking to the same one year in and year out.
- It allows you more time to master the skill
- It allows you to form bonds with people you can’t do with just one class
- It allows you to get to know the teacher better (might become a mentor)
- It means you don’t have to keep searching every year for something new
- You can use it as a break to study something different
So in light of this I decided to write an article about the 3 immersion classes you can find in almost anywhere in the USA. I can’t make any promises about the rest of the world, but in America these are all over the place. Also, these are things that should be on almost everyone 1,000 hour list.
Jazz it up
So, the first one is perhaps the most versatile. I can get five off just this one alone. Go take an exercise class. You could take dance, cycling, martial arts, yoga or one of those Jazzercise classes my gym seems to hold every hour. These can really help you with your health and become a great source of motivation. Some gym memberships even come with free classes.
Get Hot in the Kitchen
The next one is a little more skill based. Have you ever taken a cooking class? If you have not, you should give it a try. They have all kinds of good ones and some of them are really fun. Best of all, after the class you get to have food. It might be a little pricier than eating out but you can take the skills and go make it yourself whenever you want.
Also, this makes for a really fun date. Little pro tip for all the single people out there.
Even more pro tip, look for one’s that deal with nutrition. I had one teach me no oil no processed food nachos that were delicious.
If you care about your health, and you should, then these two classes might be all you want to do for your immersion classes. Study other things the rest of the year and have this be a little treat you give yourself to learn something more fun.
Free Local Business Class
This last one is more serous but important all the same. Now I should be honest with you about this. I have never taken a class here. I might never take a class here. I am not sponsored by them. I will not make any money from this.
So why are you recommending this class to us then?
Because this is an important skill for almost all career advancement. Also, you can find this class everywhere. I found 3 where I live. And they meet every week. At least almost every week. I doubt they meet on major holidays like Christmas but all the same.
Oh, also they are free. You have no excuses.
So, what is this last class? Toastmasters of course. They are a group that help people learn how to speak in front of groups without embarrassing yourself. From what I understand they allow you to practice when you are ready and if your too nervous, then you don’t have to speak that day.
These are all great immersion classes for you to take. Now, keep this in mind. I said you should go once a year, minimum. You might decide to go every week for your jazzercise class. You might decide to just take one cooking class a year. Maybe you need to go once a month to toastmasters. Or maybe you find a different class that is not in your city and go to that.
Either way the choice is yours. As are the benefits. There you have it my life long learners. Three easy immersion classes you can take almost anywhere. And will you look at that. Something good came out of a very viscous email.
